Late yesterday afternoon we received the sad news that Elisabeth Sladen (Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures) passed away. Appearing as Sarah Jane Smith opposite Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, she became one of the best-loved companions in the series history, and the only one to make a return in the new series, this time opposite David Tennant. She was so well received that Russell T Davies was inspired to produce the spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures. She will be missed. Click here for footage and tributes from BBC News.

all i can say
YOU WILL BE MISSED THAT IT
Farewell Elisabeth (and our beloved Sarah Jane). You will be sorely missed, but not forgotten.
A good companion has left the Earth for the Ultimate Adventure! Elisabeth (aka Sarah Jane Smith), you shall be deeply and utterly missed!
I began my career at Capital Radio whilst studying for a PhD at the Institute of Cancer Research. My time in Britain, October 1973 to May 1976, exactly coincided with Elizabeth Sladen’s original role as Sarah Jane during those years. I was one-year older than she, and like dozens (if not hundreds) of men of my age at that time I was madly in love with Sarah Jane. When she reappeared in the Dr. Who episode School Reunion a couple of years ago, I was literally moved to tears by my memories of both her and myself at that young age, deep emotions that just welled up when seeing her again. My most heartfelt condolences go to Brian and Sadie. Their loss is incalculably greater than mine, but I write this note, again, with uncontrolled tears on learning of her passing.
I feel like I lost a close friend today! You were my favorite companion. Whether it was when I was a teenager in the 1970’s or when you brought “sarah Jane” back to us a couple years ago.
This 50 year old was once again enthralled by your beauty, your grace, and your fire. You will NEVER be forgotten.
Thank you for all you gave to those of us in the DW universe.
I had no idea until I just saw this page. Elisabeth, in the role of Sarah Jane, was the all-time best travelling companion of all the Doctors. You will not be forgotten. My prayers go out to all her friends and family.
my deepest condolences to the Sladen family. Thank you for the many enjoyable hours of science fiction. RIP.
I love her in the 70’s, adore her in the new doctor who series and in her adventures.i will miss her but not be forgotten. R.I.P. dear elisbeth.my sarah jane…
I miss you Elisabeth..i felt like i was one of your children on your adventures..You made me believe in friendship, and family again…I will not forget you.
She was the best companion the Doctor ever had. She was real and heartwarming. There was nothing false about Sarah Jane and the world will be a lesser place without her. I am sure that Elisabeth true personality was something that shown brightly in her character, Sarah Jane.
The first lady of sci-fi….
My family and I will miss “Sarah Jane” one of the doctors most devoted comapnions. Our most heartfelt condeloneces to the Sladen family.
Folks always talk about “their” Doctor: the Doctor they first watched. But for millions, Sarah Jane was “their” companion: the human they wanted to be like or trade places with because of her relationship with the Doctor. I will miss, but not forget, her tender humanity and her independence, from a time when I was searching for my own. Thanks, Elisabeth! My Prayers are with your family.
I’m sitting in a FedEx store in New York making a zillion copies and I just found out about Elisabeth’s passing! Can you imagine what type of impression she made on me as a young girl when I first began watching Dr. Who from a small town in Mississippi? Such fire and spunk! I’m a Dr. Who fan forever but definitely for Sarah Jane! Thank you for being a great companion!
My deepest sympathy to the Sladen Family. Elizabeth has touched so many lifes as her character Sarah Jane Smith. She was greatest companion that the Doctor had. She will be missed and will be remembered as my Sarah Jane!!
Sarah Jane, you were so special. You will be missed.
It was a big shock to find out that my pen friend had passed away! I loved Elisabeth Sladen as the BEST companion that the Doctor ever had! I will miss her greatly! Liz was so very kind, and I will never forget her!
Sarah Jane and Tom Baker’s Doctor Who was my first introduction into the world of Doctor Who. I was so impressed with her that I named my daughter Sara. My sincerest sympathy to Elizabeth’s family. You will be missed.
“Death isn’t the end, death is just another adventure; The greatest adventure”. You will be missed Sarah Jane Smith. To all her family and friends I offer my thanks to you for sharing her with the rest of us around the world, and I also offer my condolences and prayers.
All I can do is echo the words and feelings of those others who have written of Elizabeth Sladen in this box. To see her again in “Reunion” was a delight. The respect of her fellow actors was very apparent.
Sladen was one of the best Who girls and a great actress!
I will always remember her and Ian Marter as part of the best Dr. Who team! There will never be another you!
